Calcium is one of the relatively abundant elements in the earth’s crust, this element constitutes 63.3% of the earth’s crust and ranks fifth after oxygen, silicon, aluminum and iron. Calcium element in nature is often in the form of carbonate. The main mineral of lime is called calcite and its formula is CaCO3. Limestones used in industry must have at least 90% calcium carbonate. Limestone is often combined with limestone, sandy limestone and dolomite and is rarely found pure. Its important impurities include: magnesium, silicon, aluminum and manganese. Depending on how they are formed in nature, limestones have crystalline, crumbly, granular or lumpy forms. The presence of calcite, quartz, dolomite or barite crystals may create small holes in the stones. Pure limestone is calcined at a temperature of about 1000 degrees Celsius and clay or dolomitic limestone at a temperature of about 1300 degrees Celsius.
